Most people think that the United States is the wealthiest country on the planet, but that is not necessarily the case. Even though 14 or the 25 richest people in the world reside in the U.S., the rest of the earth still has people with substantial amounts of wealth. The U.S. may have the highest number of billionaires, but the small country of Liechtenstein has the highest gross domestic product per capita. Many people still believe that the wealthiest man in the world is a sultan in one of the Middle Eastern countries, but that honor actually goes to a man who lives in Mexico. With over $69 billion to his name, Carlos slim Helu is richer than Bill Gates by $7 billion.

Within the U.S. California and New York have the most billionaires. The states with the least amount of billionaires living in them are Alaska, Mississippi, Alabama, Iowa and Missouri.
